To the Parents,
You might have already asked yourself, "What is DeMolay and
what is my kid doing at these meetings?" I have always told everyone that
DeMolay is fun, food and girls, but in all honesty it is about brotherhood.
It all started in January the year was 1919 when founder Frank S. Land met a
young man (Louis Lower) who's father passed away. Land saw in Louis
loneliness and a craving to have someone to talk to who would provide
inspiration, a challenge, as well as be a father figure the the young man.
From Frank Land and Louis Lower this club grew, eventually becoming the
largest organization in the whole world, DEMOLAY.
In our meetings we discuss events that are coming up such
as installations or even state events. We also plan functions within the
chapter such as lock-ins, movie nights, sports events and dances. We
do public ceremonies such as the flag tribute or an honor guard. Over
the past couple of years, I've met so many people, that I now call my
brothers, O joined DeMolay in December 2001. I was not an
outgoing person, I usually kept to myself. I couldn't talk in
front of a big crowd and I didn't have many friends. After being in
DeMolay for about a year and a half and being Master Councilor I have
developed my communications skills and now I can address a large group of
people. I have many brothers now that I will anything for as well as them
for me, and I will be the first to walk up and say hello.
DeMolay has taught me to a leader, a role model and a brother.
